Shopping startup Wish is about to get a lot of air time
After NBA superstar LeBron James decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakes this week, the talk of the league was how good his squad might be next season.
For Wish, the California-based e-commerce company, the deal is a chance to receive a major brand boost, according to online website Recode.
This is because Wish’s logo appears on the front of each Lakers jersey. And with LeBron-led teams always receiving many spots on nationally-televised games throughout the season, Wish will now get to regularly appear on the jersey of one of America’s most recognized athletes in front of an audience of millions.
What MoviePass started, others are replicating
MoviePass, the movie subscription pioneer, is struggling to stay alive because of its costly venture. But that’s not deterring other movie companies from following MoviePass’ lead.
Movie theater chains such as Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and AMC Theaters are beginning their own versions of movie subscription passes, The New York Times reports.
At Alamo Drafthouse, the chain is set to test out a system called Season Pass that will allow customers to watch as many movies as they want for a monthly fee. AMC Theaters already launched its service, which lets customers view three movies per week for $20 per month.
Theater chain executives said they are cautiously trying out the subscription systems. With more financial power than the MoviePass startup, they may succeed.

The Round Rock-based technology company is entering the public markets by creating a new publicly-traded common stock. Instead of going through the initial public offering route, which is how most companies enter public trading, Dell CEO Michael Dell went a different path in order to keep majority control over his company.
Dell will have a 72 percent ownership stake in the new common shares, while Silver Lake Partners, Dell’s other major investor, will have a 24 percent stake.
JD.com is closing in on drone package deliveries
The Chinese e-commerce company has both the technology to develop the machines and ample amount of potential customers in the region, according to Bloomberg news service.
Additionally, JD.com is working in a country with more relaxed regulatory laws. JD.com’s other main competitor, Chinese e-commerce platform Alibaba, is also working on drone package deliveries. In The U.S., companies such as Amazon have tested similar products, although regulations here could make the marketization process longer.
