Uber’s new diversity officer has a new deadline
Uber’s diversity officer, Bernard Coleman III, joined the company in January. Now, amid the furor over reports of sexual harassment, unresponsive management and a frat-boy culture, he is tasked with producing a diversity report long resisted by CEO Travis Kalanick.
Sources tell Recode that he’s now scrambling to put together a diversity report that Uber CEO Travis Kalanick had vehemently opposed — until former company engineer Susan Fowler posted claims of sexism and sexual harassment during her year-long stint at the company.

Tesla loses its CFO, says it will need more cash
Tesla Inc. is reassuring shareholders that its mass-market electric sedan will arrive on time in July, while disclosing the departure of a senior executive and warning the company probably will need another cash infusion.
Reassurances from Musk on the car’s timing are relieving concern over whether the company can overcome its long history of product delays. Management ranks, on the other hand, remain unstable -- Chief Financial Jason Wheeler, who joined the company about 15 months ago, will leave in April.
Facebook is trying to make up with the media
Through a series of off-the-record get-togethers, Facebook’s new head of news partnerships, Campbell Brown, is seeking to mend the company’s relationship with the media, Buzzfeed reports.
At a meeting of top editors and executives at prominent US news outlets, Brown and Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox defended the company’s handling of the “fake news” phenomenon and discussed Facebook’s huge clout in the media industry, according to those familiar with the meeting.
While Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg initially downplayed the notion that widespread fake political news stories could have swayed voters, the company eventually instituted a handful of measures to stem “fake news” and hired Brown — a former CNN host and controversial education activist — to rebuild trust with the media.
