In its fourth year in San Antonio, the big PAX South gaming convention continues to be one of the key gathering places for fans of video games and tabletop gaming in the region. Along with SXSW Gaming, Classic Games Fest and RTX, it’s one of the few places in Central Texas where tens of thousands of gamers can gather for a weekend and find their tribes in a family friendly environment.
A gaming event that originated as a Seattle gaming con from the makers of the “Penny Arcade” webcomic, PAX South is now one of several big conventions (others take place in Australia and Boston) focused on gameplay, gaming music and just hanging out and playing games. It launched in the region in January 2015.
For its first day back on Jan. 12, 2018, gamers showed up to a chilly morning (woe to the under-dressed cosplayers outside) for the usual mix of game-demo booths, tournaments from companies such as Capcom, panels and lots of board games.
The event runs through Sunday. You can check out a photo gallery from the first day of PAX South 2018 here.
