Lil BUB is in great hands.
BUB, one of the reigning cat queens of the Internet, is in Austin to meet fans, promote her shows on Animal Planet and raise money for some other animals in need. Any real star doesn’t travel alone, of course, and BUB is here with her dude, Mike Bridavsky. I talked with Bridavsky at BUB’s appearance Sunday at Cedar Street Courtyard about navigating feline online celebrity.
Although folks got to meet BUB, no petting or flash photography was allowed, and Bridavsky made sure the music outside wasn’t turned up too loud. He says he’s said no to offers he thought might be too stressful for BUB, and he watches for signs of discomfort at appearances.
It was hard to imagine the forever kitten-like cutie getting worked up about anything – she looked pretty content and happy with Bridavsky – but he says she can get scared and upset when she sees other cats. (He has five other rescue cats who all live together in his studio.) Bridavsky and his girlfriend recently moved in together, and they are introducing BUB to “a muscular, athletic kitten,” with what sound like the usual mixed but promising results.
Bridavsky always picks a local animal rescue group to partner with when he and BUB travel to a new city, and they’ll be at Austin Pets Alive on Monday. Some tickets were still available for the event (buy in advance, they won’t be available at the door). All money raised will be split between APA and Lil BUB’s Big Fund for the ASPCA.
