BookPeople tweets SXSW clapback to keep Austin weird
Posted March 12th, 2017
BookPeople knows Austin. They’re the largest independent bookstore in Texas, and they’ve been keeping folks reading since 1970. That’s what makes one of their latest tweets during South by Southwest so satisfying.
What happens when booksellers see signs for #sxsw that use Keep Austin Weird to say something totally different. #shoplocal pic.twitter.com/TmgAJ5S8SW

The store tweeted a photo of three booksellers in BookPeople shirts holding signs that read “keep Austin independent” while they stand in front of a sign that says “Keep Amazon Weird.” Calling out a giant online retailer in the middle of SXSW frenzy? The shade of it all.
Austin is packed to the gills with corporate installations during the festival, but make no mistake. The weird always shines through.
