Amazon Prime customers in Austin can now order a selection of beer and wine and have it delivered to them within one or two hours, the online retailer said Wednesday.
Amazon’s alcohol delivery, being operated through its Prime Now service, includes hundreds of beer and wine products and local favorites such as Austin Eastciders and Independence Brewing Company.
In addition to Austin, the alcohol delivery service through Prime Now will also be available in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio metro areas.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission allows retailers to deliver alcohol as long as they follow certain guidelines.
Amazon’s new service is part of its growing delivery ambitions. Four months ago, the company began two-hour delivery of Whole Foods Market products through Prime Now. It also raised the price for Prime memberships recently from $99 per year to $119 per year.
Customers can shop for beer or wine through the Prime Now phone app or website.
