The long-awaited augmented reality game "Pokémon Go" released on iOS and Android devices on Wednesday and Austinites are already doing their best to master it.
On Thursday, Reddit users created a thread to discuss all the places in Austin they were finding Pokémon and pokestops. Going by the thread, the game definitely has some kinks to work out — there seem to be no spots on UT campus and very few in the downtown area.
"I work at 6th and Congress" wrote one user. "Not a single pokéstop or gym in sight. Really hoping it's just bugged."
Another user who said they live on Slaughter Lane said there are two gyms within walking distance from their home. One user found four pokéstops and gyms by driving around U.S. 290, north of U.S. 183. Though most of the locations users are listing aren't near downtown, some submitted reports to the game's support center to try to get it fixed.
If you're really serious about the game, there are also Twitter accounts and Facebook users dedicated to figuring out the game. You can follow @PokemonGOATX on Twitter or you can like the Facebook page GO Greater Austin Pokemon Association, which will post locations periodically.
Austinites on Twitter have also been posting about their "Pokémon Go" experience all day.
