Dell Inc. has already announced its new leadership team that will be in place after its purchase of EMC Corp. closes.
Nowhere on that leadership team is EMC CEO Joe Tucci, who runs the Hopkinton, Mass.-based data storage company.
Silicon Angle reported last month that this wasn't exactly as surprise because Tucci wants to retire.
But on Wednesday we got a chance to hear directly from Tucci himself about why he wasn't part of the leadership team when an analyst asked him about it during their first-quarter earnings conference call. Here's what he said:
I have a lot of energy left. I'm going to continue to work and (do) different things. There is a potential I could help advise Michael. I don't want to go there yet. We're working well together. We're working incredibly well together. I'm not making myself part of this process.
Sounds like Tucci is not going to take on any executive-level duties but could have some sort of advisory role.
