WeWork, the New York co-working giant, is opening a second downtown Austin location that can accommodate more than 1,000 members.
The new space will debut in spring 2018 in the Chase Bank tower at 221 W. Sixth St.
WeWork West Sixth will occupy the third through sixth floors of the building, taking 65,000 square feet in all.
The location will include individual desks as well as private offices with room for up to 50 employees. It will have 23 meeting rooms, lounges, quiet phone booths and space for events.
Meanwhile, WeWork has partnered with new Austin-based accelerator MassChallenge, which will be located in the new space. MassChallenge is currently seeking up to 100 startups to take part in its program, which will launch this spring.
WeWork’s other downtown location, which opened in 2015, is at 600 Congress Ave. The company also has co-working facilities at The Domain and adjacent to the University of Texas at 3300 N. Interstate 35.
Since launching in 2010, WeWork has expanded to more than 170 locations in 18 countries. Its fastest-growing segment is companies with 15 or more desks.
Users pay membership fees that cover expenses such as internet, cleaning, utilities, printing and conference space.
