Intel will make ARM-based smartphone chips
Intel Corp. is licensing technology from rival ARM Holdings in a move that will allow it to churn out chips that use ARM's designs.
The two chipmakers, whose designs and technology dominate in computing and mobile, unveiled the agreement Tuesday at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.
The deal will let Intel offer third-party semiconductor companies its most advanced 10-nanometer production lines for manufacturing the complex chips usually used in smartphones.
Meanwhile, Intel goes full-throttle into VR
Intel pushed further into the VR space with the announcement of Project Alloy, an all-in-one virtual reality headset.
Project Alloy is totally wireless, which advances it beyond headsets by Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. If fact, the all-in-one device has cameras, sensors and input controls built-in.
Speaking at the Intel Developer Forum, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich called virtual reality, “one of those fundamental shifts that redefines how we work, how we’re entertained, and how we communicate in the world.”
At last, Pinterest starts selling video ads
In a move that puts it in competition with rivals Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat, Pinterest has begun selling video advertising.
Video ads from brands such as Kate Spade and bareMinerals will begin showing up in the Pinterest feed today. As the New York Times explains, it's part of a push by large digital publishers to garner more of the marketer's digital ad dollars.
The new ads will show up in a silent, GIF-like format within Pinterest’s feed, and will play with sound once clicked. Users can click images of featured products next to the videos. That could bring them to a brand’s website or allow them to buy the product without leaving Pinterest.
