South by Southwest has announced the dates and some of the initial speakers for its 2018 Gaming conference. In keeping with changes it made last year, the event will take place at the tail end of SXSW, Thursday to Saturday, March 15-17, 2018 at the Austin Convention Center.
Gaming, which shifted to a pay event for 2017, is selling wristbands now for $20 per day or $39 for a three-day wristband. It’ll include a Gaming Expo hall with demos and tournaments, panels and a Gaming Awards event.
Some of the initial speakers to be announced on Thursday for 2018 include Nate Nanzer, commissioner of the “Overwatch” League in esports, Christina Alejandre, the general manager of ELeague and vice president of esports for Turner Sports, Brendan Donohue, managing director of NBA 2K League and Pete Vlastelica, president and CEO of Major League Gaming.
If that round of speaker announcements is any indication, the growth of esports will be a major focus of SXSW Gaming 2018.
