Dr. Mehmet Oz shows off VR project ‘YOU’ at Austin’s Microsoft Store

Posted September 28th, 2017

On Thursday, Dr. Mehmet Oz (known on TV as simply “Dr. Oz”) was in Austin to demonstrate some virtual-reality software he said will help doctors improve care for their patients.

YOU,” which in the demonstration was focused on close-up examination of human organs, is from a company called Sharecare, which is based in Atlanta. Oz is an investor in the company and touted the way that VR will give medical professionals and their patients a clearer window into procedures such as stents, treatment of polyps in the colon and breast cancer.

Oz said he first used the software last year and found he was able to navigate it quickly.

The software was first announced back in January, but officially launched on the HTC Vive VR app store on Thursday. Oz’s co-founder of the company is Jeff Arnold, who was founder and CEO of WebMD.
