Samsung: We’re expecting record profits next quarter
Samsung said on Friday it is expecting record operating profits for its September quarter. Its CEO also unexpectedly resigned, sending its shares down.
CNBC reports that Samsung’s “booming semiconductor business” is a major driver of its earnings. There is a big Samsung chip manufacturing plant located in Austin.
Amazon suspends a top exec in harassment scandal
Amazon has suspended Roy Price, the vice president of Amazon Studios and global head of Prime Video content, following a harassment claim from one of the company’s producers, the Hollywood Reporter says.
Here’s the statement from the company:
"Roy Price is on leave of absence effective immediately," an Amazon spokesperson said Thursday in a statement, adding, "We are reviewing our options for the projects we have with The Weinstein Co.”
Twitter facing criticism over its treatment of Rose McGowan
After temporarily suspending actress Rose McGowan’s account, who was in the midst of tweeting about her experiences involving producer Harvey Weinstein, Twitter attempted to explain itself, which is against its policy.
The company said it suspended her account because one of her tweets included a phone number. Still, some folks are angry at Twitter over its treatment of McGowan and are planning a Twitter boycott today.
