The Oscar-nominated director of the South African sci-fi film “District 9” will debut his new short film, “Adam: The Mirror” at a tech conference in Austin Tuesday evening. The short film from Neill Blomkamp will debut free online with a livestream of the keynote presentation for Unite Austin 2017, a three-day conference focused on the Unity game engine.
The short film will continue the story from “Adam,” a short film released last year that was notable for being rendered in real time with Unity. Blomkamp is planning a third short film, “Adam: The Prophet,” to be released before the end of the year.
Blomkamp is expected to discuss filmmaking with Unity at the event, which begins at 6 p.m. central time Tuesday, October 3rd (you can watch it embedded below). Blomkamp is the founder of the indie film studio OATS, and says that using Unity has streamlined and sped up the filmmaking process.
“Ever since I started making films I’ve dreamed of a virtual sandbox that would let me build, shoot and edit photorealistic worlds all in one place,” he said in a release. “The fact that we could achieve near photorealistic visuals at half of average time of our production cycles is astounding. The future is here and I can’t wait to see what our fans think.”
The short film will be available on the OATS Studios YouTube Channel after the presentation.
