South by Southwest has announced its fourth keynote: it’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, the award-winning author of “Between the World and Me” who is also a national correspondent for The Atlantic and writer of the “Black Panther” line of Marvel Comics (soon to be a highly anticipated film). Coates was also awarded a MacArthur Genius award in 2015.
SXSW said that Coates, who writes extensively on issues related to media, culture and the African-American experience, is part of a “Diverse group of creators and storytellers building a more equitable future” that will be in the lineup for the 2018 event, taking place March 9-18.
“Ta-Nehisi Coates continues to explore America's complex history of inequality with a voice that is both powerful and passionate," said Hugh Forrest, Chief Programming Officer. “His unique perspective highlights an important aspect of SXSW — sharing new ideas to common challenges in order to drive change.”
