Starting today, on-demand delivery app Postmates will bring beer to your doorstep.
Postmates has teamed up with Austin liquor stores, such as with South Lamar Wine & Spirits, 34 Wine & Spirits and Travis Heights Beverage World, to deliver beer through its smartphone app.
Users can access the beer delivery function by clicking on the “Drinks” tab. Postmates said it has built in verification systems into the app to ensure person-to-person hand-off and ID scans to ensure the purchaser is of legal drinking age.
To celebrate its launch in Austin, San Francisco-based Postmates is offering free delivery on alcohol orders for the next month. After that, users pay a delivery fee of $3.99. There is no delivery fee for orders over $30.
Delivery apps have made it easy to get almost anything delivered, but some don’t deliver alcohol because of the legal requirements.
Austin-based Favor, for instance, doesn’t deliver alcohol. Instacart does deliver alcohol in Austin through stores such as Spec’s and Total Wine & Spirits. It wasn’t immediately clear if alcohol could be delivered through Instacart from regular grocery stores.
